a unified Europe under a structural signature
The Europa Building, located in the European quarter of Brussels, hosts both the European Council and the Council of the European Union. The European Council is the EU institution that defines the general political direction and priorities of the European Union. It consists of the heads of state of the member states, together with its President and the President of the Commission. On the other hand, the Council of the EU is the institution representing the member states’ governments. Also known informally as the EU Council, it is where national ministers from each EU country meet to adopt laws and coordinate policies.
Our mission was to create an unified visual identity system for the entire Council family: the European Council and its President; the Euro Summit and its President; the Council and its Presidency (with specific provisions for co-branding with the rotating Presidency); the Eurogroup and its President and the General Secretariat of the Council (GSC).
The new identity is based on the new Europa building that serves as the main seat of the European Council, the Council of the EU and other high-level bodies. It was also a perfect opportunity for a brand alignment with the other two main EU institutions: the EU Commission and the EU Parliament; conveying a strong message of a unified Europe.
To summarize the work we developed extensive guidelines of use of the logotype and the defined visual system across all the different communication supports.
